This was an excellent read....couldn't put it down til it was finished.Having said that, however, I was mighty disappointed by the way Lauren's and Devlin's physical love was shown in the book after all that tension between them...it was a bit of an anti-climax. At this point, it made me wonder if the book was written by a straight woman who has no clue how to write about lesbian sex, hence the reason why this all important scene was cut short. That was a huge disappointment.
Other than that, it is an excellent, slow burning romance between 2 wonderfully written characters.

This was a warm, tender and touching story. You'll care about the whole family and the supporting characters are great and well developed. Guaranteed laughter from beginning to the end. The dialogues were hilarious. But there were also very serious moments and all this made the story so intense and heartwarming. This is one of my most favorite story and I highly recommend it.

I was a bit weary at first regarding the book but I'm glad I bought it. The writing was extraordinary and the fact that unlike most lesbian books, the relationship happened over the course of a year instead of a couple months made me really love it even more.
There were hardly any grammatical errors and that's a big pet peeve for me. This might be one of if not the best romance book I've ever read.
This is a well researched and beautifully written book and I can say without a doubt that it is my favorite book of all time. You will not regret one moment of reading this gem. I have read it multiple times and discover new things that I hadn't caught before. Great, great book.
This is a nice mixture of romance and comedy. The characters are three dimensional and believable for the most part. The best part of Devlyn Marlowe's character is her focus as the powerful world leader and her humanity behind the decisions she has to make. She is self-aware about her power, but agonizes over the hard decisions involving the lives of people at risk. Lauren's character grows as she learns to cope with the challenges of living in the Whitehouse and loving the woman who makes Dev so appealing to everyone.
To accomplish a highly sensitive issue not just on the steps of the biggest grandstand focal point in history-the White House but to write about it and still make an awesome book in the process.
There are so many words that can describe this book, that I feel that I wouldn't do it justice. I just feel as a reader you need to read it. Take pleasure in every little story, every joke, in the love that builds between two people who are not only good friends but lovers and soon to be more. What makes this so great is the other characters in the book. Stand up and be proud, I am.
I like this book. I read it online a number of years ago, and was in the mood to read it again, so I went out and bought it. And I'll hang on to it. I like how it deals with family. I'm entertained by the setting and it's also not a bad set-up Lauren is hired to be Dev's (the new President's) biographer, naturally forcing them to spend a lot of time together. Of course Dev comes with some baggage three kids and a dead wife who was the love of her life. And there are naturally many unique obstacles due to Dev's being President and all. But then again Lauren has issues of her own a suicidally depressed mother, a distant father, trust issues stemming from a cheating ex-husband, and a fear of needles and lasers. It's all set up with a lot of potential to mine for revealing emotional moments, drama, angst, romance and illustration of the human condition. I have to work to suspend my disbelief that an out lesbian could be elected to the White House from a third party within the next 12 years or so (I think I have the timing right), but it's amusing to contemplate, and therefore I have no trouble taking the journey. Both authors have a sure hand with characterizations and consistent and complex motivations that make it a joy to spend time with their creations.
My biggest quibbles probably stem from the fact that the pacing was rather uneven, and lagged at times. I'd say that there was never a scene that I read that I didn't enjoy, but sometimes I wondered what the point of it was, which is a little frustrating as a reader, to keep thinking, "where are we going with all this?" So the plotting/editing could have been tighter. I'd say that this is a definitely above-average book. There's a ton of humor, much of it stemming from clever media references. These characters enjoy each other like people, complete with practical jokes. There's also the thoughtful political discussion or two, and commentary on the world of politics. I'd probably honestly rate this book at 3-1/2 stars, so do I display that as 3 or 4? In this case 4, because there's a pug in the story, named Gremlin no less (a perfect pug name) and I'm a sucker for pugs with their chicken hearts, snorting and snoring, flat faces, dense bodies, and crooked teeth, all of which was accurately portrayed as a package in this book. Good times. An overall fun book about life in the White House, and falling in love under the public eye, in some ways reminiscent of The American President, and definitely worth the sequel it inspired First Lady.
